"Every year, thousands of men and women from all walks of life seek psychiatric help for sexual behavior disorders," said the doctor who gathered last week at the annual meeting of the American Psychiatric Association (APA).

Hypersexual disorders is being considered for inclusion in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), the next edition, called the DSM-5, which will be launched in 2013.
According to a report researchers at the APA meeting, the research shows the similarity of childhood experiences of sex addicts. Most of them have some kind of mental, physical or sexual abuse during childhood.
Other studies have shown that people who are hypersexual often do not have a close relationship with other people early in life.
According to a study presented by researchers in Sweden, 92 percent of men with hypersexual disorders had at least mild depressive symptoms. Both men and women with hypersexual, having a low level of welfare compared with people without hypersexual disorders.
Women with hypersexual disorders reported to be more emotional and depressed compared with male patients.
"Attention to this problem grow and come at the right time. The availability of pornography on the internet to create people with sexual behavior disorders. I see now many patients at the age of 20 years who began to make sexual behavior internet since fifth grade," explained Patrick Carnes, executive director of the Gentle Path, a program for sex addicts in Pine Grove Behavioral Health & Addiction Services, Hattiesburg.
According to Carnes, exposure to pornography or sexual activity at a young age can make the brain create the need for excessive sexual stimulation later in life.
"Research shows early exposure to substances (at a young age) can increase the risk of later addiction. The same goes for sex addiction," said Carnes.
